Phakamani means "Rise Up" in isiZulu and is pronounced "Pug - ah - ma - nee"

"The Phakamani Foundation Trust empowers poor women to succeed at micro-enterprise. This foundation provides these poor women with an incredible support structure by providing training, group loans, support led to family income and hope for the next generation. Their goal is to create self-employment jobs that will generate income for their family to make a positive difference in their lives. Phakamani have, therefore, started an organisation that will not only feed some of the needy people in our community, but more importantly will give them the tools to provide their own food. Their vision is a country in which even the poorest entrepreneur has the opportunity to create a business, uplift a family, and build a dream — even if that dream is as humble as providing basic food, shelter and education for one’s family."
